American Family Insurance Expands Into Washington

Seattle, Wash. (June 19, 2006) — American Family Insurance, a multi-line insurance company and one of the largest property-casualty insurers in the nation, will begin writing policies in Washington on July 1, the company announced today.

"While there are many insurance companies to choose from, I'm confident our excellent customer service and high-quality insurance products and financial services will be very attractive to Washington consumers."

Bob Toney will direct American Family's sales efforts in the Seattle area; Rob Quesnel will oversee sales operations in the Vancouver, Wash., area. The two will oversee an initial Washington sales force of approximately 22 American Family agents.

Pierce and other company leaders will conduct a grand opening of the company's state headquarters Tuesday, June 20 at 10 a.m. The office is located in the Sunset North Building, 3180 139th Avenue SE, Suite 100, Bellevue. The event will also feature charitable contributions to the Overlake Services League, Latinos Unidos Por Los Niños, Snohomish County Center for Battered Women, and the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound.

Based in Madison, Wis., American Family offers a wide range of insurance products and financial services. In Washington, the company will initially provide auto, homeowners, commercial, Medicare supplement and life insurance, as well as consumer loans and annuities. Farm/ranch and individual health policies will be introduced at a later date. The company has 8,100 employees and contracts with 4,300 exclusive independent contractor agents.

American Family is the country's 16th-largest provider of property and casualty insurance and the third-largest mutual property and casualty insurer, with total assets of $14.6 billion, equity of $4.8 billion and life insurance in force of $71.0 billion. American Family is ranked 323 on the Fortune 500 list.

With the addition of Washington on July 1, American Family will conduct business in 18 states. The company also sells policies in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah and Wisconsin.
