Windsor, Colo. (May 26, 2008) —American Family Insurance says claims continue to mount from Thursday’s tornado and hailstorm that devastated parts of Windsor, Colo., and damaged other communities in the area.
American Family, the state’s third largest provider of homeowners and auto insurance, has already received 1,300 claims from the storm, including dozens for destroyed or seriously damaged homes in Windsor. The specific numbers include 700 auto, 450 homeowners, 130 commercial and seven farm-ranch claims. According to the company, it is too early to project total claim payments.
American Family customers who have damage should report their claims to their agent or American Family’s 24-hour Claim Customer Care Center, at 1-800-MYAMFAM (1-800-692-6326) to arrange an inspection of their property or vehicle.
American Family claims personnel were on site within hours of the storm. A catastrophe team featuring the company’s state-of the art catastrophe vehicle is based at the Windsor office of American Family Agent Eric Ehrlich.
The vehicle uses satellite technology and a gas-powered generator to link claims personnel at the storm site to the company’s headquarters in Madison, Wis. Fully-equipped with computer work stations, phone lines, and a fax, the vehicle allows storm adjusters to efficiently and quickly settle claims, often writing checks on the spot to policyholders.
A drive-in for inspecting hail-damaged vehicles also opened Sunday at 1047 Main St. in Windsor. The drive-in will operate from hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Vehicle inspections are conducted on an APPOINTMENT BASIS ONLY so it is important for policyholders to first contact their agents or the Claim Customer Care Center.
