American Family introduces FanFare application to link sports fans to free stuff

Madison, Wis. (Aug. 20, 2009) —American Family Insurance is piloting a new Facebook application that allows users of the popular social networking tool to earn free merchandise from their favorite sports team, simply by becoming Facebook fans of both their team and American Family.

The application, called FanFare, is a first-of-its-kind Facebook application. Developed by American Family, it links a fan of two different Facebook pages and automatically enters the fan into a drawing for cool gear.

The insurance company is partnering in a FanFare pilot with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Madison (Wis.) Mallards of the amateur baseball Northwoods League.

The FanFare program protects people’s privacy. American Family and its partners will not receive any protected personal data from FanFare users. Winners will be notified through Facebook, so their personal information and e-mail address will not be used. Prizes will be delivered by U.S. Mail.

“As long as a person is a fan of both our page and the partner’s page, they’ll be eligible to win fun stuff,” said Bill Simon, American Family’s digital marketing director. “Eventually, we’ll develop partnerships with other sport teams and organizations to continue growing our fan base.”

As an added benefit, American Family Insurance is donating one dollar to the American Red Cross for each of its first 5,000 Facebook fans. Check out the Facebook pages of FanFare, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Madison Mallards or American Family Insurance.
