American Family Insurance estimates it will pay customers $4.1 million to repair damage from Wadena tornado

Madison, Wis. (July 7, 2010) — American Family Insurance said today it expects to pay out more than $4.1 million to Wadena, Minn., customers whose homes were damaged by June 17 tornadoes and strong winds.

Based in Madison, Wis., American Family Insurance is the second largest provider of homeowners and private passenger auto insurance in Minnesota.

American Family policyholders in Wadena have filed 124 claims from the June 17 storms. The company said the claims include five destroyed homes and 14 other homes with damage of $50,000 or more.

"Wadena took a tremendous hit from these storms, but it's a strong and resilient community," said American Family Claims Vice President Tim Constien. "By mobilizing resources quickly and working with our customers to process their claims as quickly as possible, American Family is helping that healing process move forward."

American Family customers who sustained damage from the storms but have not reported their claims should do so immediately by contacting their American Family agent or the company's 24-hour Claim Customer Care Center at 1-800-MYAMFAM (1-800-692-6326).
