Rebuilding our customers' dreams

When one of the deadliest tornadoes on record in the country ripped through Joplin, Mo., May 22, 2011, many of our customers' dreams became nightmares. Loved ones and friends were injured or killed. Homes, vehicles and businesses were destroyed.

By the time it was over, American Family received more than 2,500 claims. True to our mission, we immediately responded to help our customers. We expect to make more than $100 million in claim payments. Since then, we've continued to be there for our customers every step of the way as they rebuild their dreams.

Making the world a better place

In response to the devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti in January 2010, American Family organized a campaign to raise $50,000 through agent and employee donations, matched by the company. Right away, donations exceeded the $50,000 target, so the match was raised.

"The outpouring of support was just tremendous," says Judy Lowell, community relations manager. A grand total $150,000 was given to the Red Cross, Partners in Health, the Salvation Army and 64 other organizations helping Haiti.

Caring for our customers when tragedy strikes

It's not every day that Eagle, Wis., gets national news coverage.

But, that's what happened when a tornado with 130-mph winds ravaged this quiet town of 2,000 the night of June 21, 2010. If that wasn't bad enough, two smaller yet powerful tornadoes took their toll on the neighboring communities of Muskego and Big Bend, as well as surrounding areas. If you put yourself in the shoes of customers whose homes and cars were damaged or destroyed, you'd want help as soon as possible.

And that's exactly how American Family responded, rebuilding lives in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
